Parry Sound-Muskoka Federal Liberals Seek 2019 Election Candidate
October 26, 2018 — With the 2019 federal election fast approaching, the Parry Sound-Muskoka Federal Liberal Association is putting out the call for the riding’s most talented and hardworking Liberal Party candidate ever.
Are you a progressive-minded individual ready and eager to represent Parry Sound-Muskoka in Ottawa? Or do you know someone else who fits the bill? As part of the Liberal Party of Canada’s open and transparent process, we want to hear from you.
We’re particularly interested in hearing from potential candidates who are women, indigenous people and visible minorities. Why? Because the Liberal government is working hard to address historic political power imbalances. Despite the fact that women make up over 50% of the Canadian population, only 27% of Canada’s 338 seats in the House of Commons are held by women. Other groups are also under-represented. Indigenous people are 5% of the population but just 3% of MPs, and visible minorities make up 22% of Canadians but just 14% of the House of Commons. (Source: Wikipedia — Demographics of Canada)
It’s not just running for office — there are lots of ways to get involved and make a difference. Whether it’s volunteering, joining the PSM Federal Liberal Riding Association, or playing a key role on the campaign team, it’s important that more under-represented people feel empowered to actively participate. We want everyone to know they are welcome.
