2017 – Looking back, Looking ahead

Posted on December 31, 2017

PSM LRA Executive

On behalf of the Federal Liberal Association of Parry Sound-Muskoka, I’d like to send our greetings, take a brief look back at the year that was, and invite you to participate in planning for the year ahead.

2017 saw numerous federal policies introduced that will positively impact Parry Sound-Muskoka, including: a reduced tax rate for small businesses, the Anishinabek Nation Education Agreement, the lifting of 30+ long-term drinking water advisories on reserves, the first-ever Canadian National Housing Strategy, the Pension for Life for Veterans plan, and the CETA free trade deal takes effect. Nationally, our economy continues to grow and exceed expectations, with the creation of more than 600,000 new jobs.

In November we held our annual general meeting and proudly introduce our new and returning executive. They are (left to right) Dave Hudson, Laurie Fountain (Secretary), Arthur Jefford (Policy), Nancy Osborne, John Duck (President), Tamsen Tillson, Cameron Prymak, Andy Moore, and Ahsanul Hafiz. Karen Dinner, Robert Ryckman and John Stoppard are not pictured here.

Our association’s next meeting will be in January (details to follow in the new year). We encourage you to attend and help plan and prepare for events in 2018.

We would also like to pay tribute to Greg Black, who passed away on December 22, 2017. Greg was a longtime activist for the party, most recently as campaign-runner for the 2015 federal election campaign of Trisha Cowie. We are grateful for Greg’s important contribution to the party and send our condolences to his family.

As the year comes to a close we invite Liberal supporters to make a financial contribution to the asssociation. Annual political donations of up to $400.00 can potentially earn you a 75% income tax credit. You can make a one-time donation or join the Victory Fund to donate monthly at or by contacting Dave Hudson at or 705-645-6851. Our budgets operate out of separate accounts, so please be sure to specify how you would like your donation allocated between the Parry Sound-Muskoka Liberal Riding Association and the Federal Liberal Offices in Ottawa.

The next federal election, in October 2019, is fast-approaching. Preparations are underway, and we’d love your assistance. If you are not currently a member, please register at (it’s free!) To join or re-confirm your commitment to volunteer with us, contact Questions? I would be most interested in speaking with you.

We wish you all the best for a happy and healthy 2018.
